Lockpicking

Emerald Jake's Guide For The Novice Yegg

First thing the beginner locksmith needs to do is put together a nice tool kit, so he doesn't go stickin' his hands into someone else's stuff and maybe get his finger's broken.

One of the most important, if not the most important tool is the pick. Now, lock picks come in all types of metal, but if yer just startin' out, you dunt gotta get yer breeches in an uproar about that yet. Although, if you can lift a nice damask from some swell, you are made in the shade fer the rest o' yer life. Low steel is about as cheap as I'll go, but hey, that's me.

As fer traps, well, yer on yer own, but I ken tell ya what kinda stuff you'll need in yer kit.

First off, a wrench is an essential, iffn ya wanna hold onto a barb or dislodge somethin', and no kit is complete without an absorption rod. Them tools are devised to absorb the energy of magikal objects, rendering them inert and safe. Then there are files and pliers to work on them traps which got plates and needles in them. And don't fergit screwdrivers fer them traps with rods in 'em and files too. Last but not least, ya gonna need snips fer some o' them wired traps.

By now yas all gotta know that ye inspect yer container to see a trap and then ya disarm yer container with yer tool to get the traps...unless yer mams dropped yas on yer heads, and once ya free and clear, ya pick yer container with yer picks, it dinna get easier than that.

I think after givin' ya all this free advice, ya owe me and the boys about 20% of yer take fer the first month or so, and dunt get no ideas about welchin'. Big Fhil may be dumber than dirt but his punch ken knock a gharkin into next Sartstag!
